a couple of the scooters

these are a couple of pics of the Lambrettas that I was sprinting.
The black one was a 1963 li 125 originaly. But the angle grinder came out and cut off most of what was not needed.this was used as a test bed and spare when the blue and white bike decided to get all italian and pack up.the steering stem was shortened, the handlebars were made into drops and it was standard wheel base, hence getting the front wheel off the tarmac.

The blue and white bike is a different beast altogether. The frame was extensivley modified, the engine moved back by 300mm,the steering stock and forks cut down by 400mm.The frame was cut to alter the rake angle and the forks altered to change the rake. This stopped it wheelieing in all gears.everything was cut off it that was not needed.the feul tank was custom made to hold just 2.5 litres of methanol, anything less than that I would run out of fuel before i had got back to the paddock after one 1/4 mile run at Santapod. You can work out the mpg! The carb is a 39mm delorto with drilled out main jet and twin 8mm pipes feeding it.
The exhaust was hand made, the gearboxes and gear selectors I had to have cryogeneticaly frozen to make them harder as I was breaking them with no trouble at all.

With times for the quarter at 14.01 seconds at a speed of 90 plus mph,it's best day was doing 1/8th mile at brooklands on the brand new tarmac laid down for the new mercedes world.9 seconds and doing 78mph over 220 yards on a scooter with 245cc and around 36hp ,it blew away most modern 600s and 750s.awsome

Snaggletooth comes to the rescue

And just at the right time Gary Furnell who is a fellow member of the 924 owners club gave me a ring and said he had a 924 on his drive that he wanted rid of.He had stripped(or rather got his kids to strip it out in December)all the bits he wanted off of it.The red paint had gone off over the years and it was a patchwork quilt of several different shades of pink. With the lure of a motorway breakfast Erny and myself jumped in the recovery truck and drove down to Ashford and picked up the new race car.

Little did i know what i had undertaken,or how much.

so i had this idea about racing

In December 2010 i had heard that there was a crash damaged race prepped Porsche 924 for sale.I went along to have a look and found a white 924 with the front end chopped off, wings and bonnet missing, but other wise it was a comlpete race car.It had all the important bits still with it.a roll-cage,racing wheels and tyres, engine, exhaust, fire extinguisher system and plastic windows and rear hatch.

A deal was done and this is where my son in law stuart(who shall be known from now on as erny) comes in.Erny is a mechanic and banger racer and he had agreed to help out with the project. The first plan was that we would weld on a new front end and we would be ready for the first race in march.
when we got the white car back to the barn and on the ramp it was clear that this was not going to be the case. The floor pan was rippled and the damage at the front end was to severe for us to remedy.I did not really like the idea of grafting a front end on anyway, but it was the cheapest option at the time.the decision was taken that we would get a new chassis

my road 924

This is my trusty 924 on the top of the Fuela Pass in the Swiss Alps,June 2010

From the beginning

I have always loved racing ,whether it be cars, bikes, planes and don't mind messing about with sharp, hot oily bits either.
In my late teens (mid 80's) I started going scooter racing with Paul Shirley, helping out as pit crew for him. This then turned to building my own Lambretta race bike ,which i did race but slowly!.We then turned our attention the scooter grass track racing which was very cheap and a whole lot of fun. That was until I broke a collar bone testing a sidecar.Family and work then took over until around 2002 when i took up motorbike sprinting. This took me and Karen all over the country drag racing several Lambretta's and I was British scooter sprint champion for a couple of seasons.

In 2007 myself and daughter Amy took part in the scally rally which entailed buying a car (h reg sierra) for under £100 and driving from Calias to Rimini on the Adriatic coast going over the alps and dolomites in 4 days.It was a blast, so much so that the following year i bought a 1983 Porsche 924 and completed both the Irish and Rimini Rallies.best part of 5000 miles in a little over 2 weeks.I was now hooked on this cheap front engined rear wheel drive sports car.And i could say i have a Porsche in the drive.

welcome to my blog.this is all about the building and the racing of my car.

Hello and welcome. My name is Karl Rossin and in 2012 I shall be taking part in the BRSCC Porsche Championship. This is a series of races around some of the best in the country for Porsche 924's.
I would not be able to embark on theis adventure without the help and support of my family and friends.
Thankyou very much for all that you have done and here comes the chequered flag.
